Although we have always lived in the southeast (where it snows about once every 7 years -- and only for a few days!), we started snow skiing about 25 years ago. Since then we have skied many places in the west, but when we skied Deer Valley we were hooked on Park City. It's not just the skiing that we loved so much about Park City (it's true that Utah has some of the best skiing because of the texture of the snow -- it's like skiing on powder). It's the town experience as well. Park City has a perfect mixture of laid-back western and hollywood glitz. Also, it's a real town -- not just a ski resort -- and the people are friendly and laid back. You might know Park City as the main location of the United States' largest independent film festival, the Sundance Film Festival. From time to time you may run into some hollywood celebrities there. But you may not know that it is also the home of the United States Ski Team and the training center for members of the Australian Freestyle Ski Team. For shopping enthusiasts, Park City has several great boutiques located on Main Street, and a few miles down the road is the largest collection of factory outlet stores in northern Utah. Close to Park City are reservoirs (for boating and water skiing in the summertime) and hot springs. Of course, there are miles and miles of forests, hiking trails, and fantastic biking trails all in and around the Park City area. And as far as the skiing goes, you can't beat the beauty and service at Deer Valley.
Choosing Park City was easy for us. It has everything that we were looking for -- a great town, three fabulous ski resorts all within 5 minutes from our condo (and several more within a 40-minute drive from Park City), lots of outdoor activities and incredible scenery all around. So after trying many different ski resorts across the U.S., we decided that it was Park City that we loved best. We hope you enjoy it as much as we have. |
